I think that the first assignment went ok, four out of twelve participated so thats a quarter.

Next up "round robin" to launch Friday. Until then I'll be accepting suggestions to kick it off.

EQUINOX

"The National Clandestine Service (NCS) is the American national authority for coordinating U.S. human intelligence (HUMINT) services. The organization absorbed the entirety of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA)'s Directorate of Operations, and also coordinates HUMINT between the CIA and other agencies, including, but not limited to, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Diplomatic Security Service, Defense Intelligence Agency, Air Intelligence Agency, Army Intelligence and Security Command (INSCOM), Marine Corps Intelligence Activity, and Office of Naval Intelligence. The current Director of the NCS is Michael Sulick. The Director of the NCS reports to the CIA Director."

Equinox is the NCS'S highest security rating. Since they don't have a charter to operate in an investigative power, or possess arrest powers, any situation that they learn of and can do nothing about becomes labeled Equinox and updated digitally.

Then which ever appropriate city, state, or federal agency (as well as a few private defense contractors) who's agents or employees stumble onto any situation labeled Equinox can then request funds, resources and more from the NCS to accomplish their goal from them.

In the last fifteen years, what the NCS has allowed to exist as a "private contractor" would be a stretch by any sense of the word but with Xtor loyalists flaring up...the public isn't watching anyhow...

I wanted to send out an update for Xtor and Equinox. As much as I want to create a "free" environment where the participating writers can have some flexibility I understand that a complete lack of guidelines won't do either. A nice balance, with some guidelines, and a little flexibility later is probably what’s best.

THE WORLD
It's the modern day in a modern city off of a large coastal range. Like any city there are well developed areas filled with new growth and cheery up beat people who love their city. On the flip side there are areas filled with sprawl, a lack of development, and grumpy residents who can't wait to win the lotto and move away.

Xtor and his "cult" that flared up and forced the city to take action 14 years ago is thought of like any other scandal. Its a large city who's residents have experienced a small amount of Psionic abilities but most have forgotten about it or are trying to so they can put it behind them and move on. No one wants to think about the fact that people may have not been living in control of their lives for 18 or more hours...

Rumors of Xtor loyalists coming into power once again has the population angry and restless.

XTOR
A hybrid of Jean Grey (Marvel's Pheonix) and Joe Wilson (DC's Jericho) Xtor possess both Telepathy, Telekinesis, and the ability to possess other peoples minds and bodies whole. Once inside a person XTOR would leave an imprint of him self in the other person so that he may "run" them like a remote control car.

What started as Street Gang petty crime graduated quickly to a criminal organization but as Xtor became more and more experienced he learned that he could not only imprint people, once imprinted he could draw from their own un-tapped psionic energies to increase his own power level.

It wasn't long before Xtor had taken things to the next level as he began to see the world in a new light. Xtor believed that his own vision of the future would not only bring much prosperity but absolutely had to come to bear so that the world would know how it should focus its own evolution and progress into the next century.

ASSIGNMENT UPDATE
Please create a psionic character between the ages 16 and 21 with a singlular psionic ability that is similar or a take off of Xtor’s own abilities.

The character does not have to be human, although it/he/she should be able to pass for human out in public.

You are all the first batch of members of the writers group that I've (digicomx) begun putting together. I'm not going to go into any detail about my self, if you care to know more then please visit my page.

The group has been set up to offer resources (by way of feedback and inspiration), increase the abilities (writing will only lead to better writing) of the individual, and be FUN! We'll accomplish this three ways:

1.) By setting up a "shared universe" to write stories in (Mandatory).

2.) By offering up constructive critiques of one another’s work (Mandatory).

3.) By challenging the group with quick writing activities and contests (which you may choose to be a part of or not and still remain in the group).

All of you think that a writers group is a great idea and are interested in participating. Some of you want to participate in building the actual shared universe, others don't (their just waiting patiently to begin writing in it). That’s fine.

To be fair, I've thrown around a couple of ideas all ready. One was completely scifi, about huge matter transporters (one on the east coast and one on the west) and how they've changed the world. We can still use that, but I think we should focus on more of a comic book universe.

Proposal:
In 1994 Xtor (the Psion) held (most) the continental United States in the palm of his hand as he had achieved considerable influence over (most) all of its residents and held control from nearly eight teen hours (to the best recollection of those involved) before the group known as Equinox and a few dozen Psions took Xtor down and imprisoned him.

Now fourteen years later a group of Xtor loyalists are rising up as it is believed that Xtor's ten children are either entering, in the midst of, or just getting over puberty where their powers (if they have any) will come to fruition.

Equinox, Xtorians, and other groups of interest are aggressively tracking the ten children for their own personal reasons...

Notes:
This setting should be general enough to allow each writer to come up with their own stories either as individuals, in pairs, or as a group and yet not be so constricting that you can't write the stories that you want to write the way you want to write them.

I'll flesh out Xtor, Equinox and the others a bit more soon. If you'd like to contribute to either of the characters or groups listed in this Note then please Note me back. If not, I'll just flesh them out my self, no big deal.

Assignment:
Following with the set up scenario, please create one of the ten children. You can choose to make them a protagonist, antagonist, male, female, or what ever so long as they have been sired by Xtor (Male). DEADLINE: 04.04.08
